Calvin, Kaylee and Jordan

Here is a picture of the kids I took today on our way back from the Housing Office. Calvin was trying not to smile but I got a little one out of him.

Our New House

We have a house! Our original plan was to buy a house when we got here but decided to move into base housing for a year and then look at possibly buying a house. For most of the base housing there is a lengthy waiting list, while you wait for them to become available. There were a few houses available a little farther away from the base so we decided we would take one of these. The house we accepted is in Ely which is about a 35-45 minute drive from RAF Lakenheath, depending on what roads you take and how fast you are able to travel. We will not be able to move into the house until August 21 so we will stay in our two bedroom lodging until then. Below is a picture of the front of the house.

To the left of the house is a garage which may fit a small car, maybe my Volkswagen Bug when I find it. I did see one around the corner that I wanted but it wasn't for sale. We will take more pictures and give you an online tour when we finally move in.

Some of the interesting places to visit in our new city is the Ely Cathedral (pictured below) and Oliver Cromwell's House. Oliver Cromwell was an English military leader, politician, and dictator, and one of only two commoners ever to have been the English Head of State (from 1653-1658; the other being his son Richard Cromwell from 1658-1659). After being amongst the lower levels of the leadership of the war against the crown, he rose to command the Army and eventually to impose his rule on England, Scotland, and Ireland as Lord Protector, from December 16, 1653 until his death, which is believed to have been by malaria (from www.wikipedia.com). So there is your UK history lesson for this week!

We're Here, Again?!

London Heathrow AirportAfter what seemed like a few days on an airplane we finally landed at London's Heathrow Airport (that is actually a picture of our plane on the tarmac, J/K) on Friday, June 30th. For Calvin's and Kaylee's first airplane ride they did quite well although about an hour into our flight from Las Vegas to Washington D.C., Calvin did say he was done with the airplane and wanted to get out! After clearing customs and picking up our luggage, all 7 suitcases and 2 car seats we had about an hour to burn before we left for RAF Lakenheath on the bus. After the long plane right getting on a bus for a 2-3 hour ride isn't what you want to do but we all made the best of it by getting a little sleep, except for Marsha, I don't think she slept much. We were met at theRAF Lakenheath Gate
Lakenheath lodging office by our sponsor and a friend, who helped us get checked in and get our luggage over to our room. It was a lot better then our first experience at Lakenheath a few years ago when we were dropped off at some house off the base that was being used for lodging and basically forgot about. And so our journey begins!
